The first Sunday Session at Broomfield Park, Palmers Green on 2 August 2009 started off bright and sunny with the first heat of our open mic section. First up on stage was singer/songwriter Tim Mileson who had travelled all the way from Hampstead to perform a few of his own original songs on acoustic guitar, followed by Alan who sang a few popular blues numbers accapella. Both were invited to return on the 23rd August for the final.

After the open mic, more people started to arrive just in time to see the Bear Cat Crawlers tuning up on stage ready to perform their first set of three for the afternoon. We had a good crowd of between 150 - 200 people seated at any one time and counted around 400 - 450 dropping by throughout the day to watch this popular local traditional New Orleans Jazz band who always get our toes tapping!

This year line up included Robbie Martin on Clarinet, x Acker Bilk Cornet player Ken Sims, Johnny Hayes on Trombone, Nick Singer on Banjo, Winnie Lodge on Double Bass and Dave Judd on Drums.

As always their sets consisted of a nice variety of excellent jazz tunes ranging from mellow strains of Corin Corina to foot stompingly good Bugle Boy Rag. Particular favourites of the day were Jelly Roll Blues and Rosetta with vocals from the ultimate last Jazz shouter Nick Singer and some great solos from the band.
