The rain stayed away for second week of our Sunday Sessions on 14 August 2011 saw some changes to the itinerary as Lester Clayton whose EP is now available on iTunes had to pull out due to illness, however, the rest of the band plus their guests did a sterling job of entertaining the audience with their interchangeable line ups and eclectic music!

Starting off the afternoons entertainment, duo Chris and Shen performed a mix of original and cover songs on acoustic guitar including The Busker, Smokers Cough, I Will Follow You Into The Darkness (Death Cab For Cutie), Why Don't You Do Right (Peggy Lee).

Led by the very capable Mehmet Raif (guitar/bass), the band consisting of Andy Christo (drums), Big Daddy Steve Straughan (percussion/backing vocals), Wolfe Hogan (violin/backing vocals) kicked off the afternoon with some great funky instrumentals including Summer Forest. Their music is intricate with interwoven melodies that sour and dance. Mehmet also runs an open mic every Sunday night at the Live Rooms, Green Lanes, Palmers Green which is worth a visit even if you don't play as the music is so good! The band, along with Lester, will be supporting Ed Sheeran on his forthcoming tour as well as headlining in their own right at various venues throughout the UK.

Next up on stage were singer/songwriter Ryan Keen (acoustic guitar/vox) and Lee (percussion/backing vox) to perform a selection of his original songs including Aurelia, Bring It Home, Trouble, Can You See Me Now, Focus, Aiming For The Sun, Thank You and a cover version of I've Got Soul But I'm Not A Soldier (The Killers) which got the audience singing along. With intricate percussive rhythms, interesting guitar licks and thoughtful lyrics, his songs are insightful and full of emotion, so if you get the chance it's worth catching Ryan at one of his shows. Also check out the stop animation video by Michael De Souza one of the creators of Rastamouse for the track Focus from his EP, now available at and for purchase on iTunes.

Regulars at The Fox and the Live Rooms were pleased to see singer/songwriter Craig McMorrow (vocals/guitar) up next, accompanied by Mehmet (guitar), Niol (percussion) and Andy (drums) to perform original songs City Lights and Answers. Craig moved to North London from Leitrim, Ireland to study Education at Middlesex University. A seasoned performer at Irish Trad music playing the Bodhran (Irish Drum) and singing backing vocals for various bands in his teens, Craig has travelled the world as an Irish dancer and played drums for the Emerald Revellers. His solo bluesy acoustic rock songs are always well received and he has subsequently formed his own band called Stop The Press. Check out his videos on YouTube.

Singer/Songwriter Emmie Green (keyboard/vocals) was up next, accompanied by Dave Tither (guitar), Martin Tishome (cello), Richard Craig (percussion) to perform some original songs including Fuel to the Fire, Bubble, Missing You, Mamma Said, Starting Over Again, Floodgates, Majoring on the Minor and Real Job. Emmie has a lilting voice which she uses to great effect over thoughtful lyrics and interesting melodies about life and the world around her.

Final band of the day was the very talented Dave Tither Band with Dave Tither (guitar/vocals), Emmie Green (backing vocals), Ollie Egan (keyboards), Memhet Raif (bass), Steve Straughan (percussion), Andy Christo (drums) performing a great selection of pop and blues orientated music including Dawn Chorus, Foundations, Sky is Crying (Elmore James), Sailing Away, She's My Baby, I Still Live In Your Eyes, joined by Craig (vocals) for Superstition. A regular at the Live Rooms and other local venues, Dave has a varied set list ranging from original songs to standard covers which he performs with great competance and energy. His emotive expressive voice and superb guitar playing are equally matched by his backing band whose excellent musicianship created a wonderful atmosphere.

To round off the afternoon, Tim Milligan got up with the band to perform Knocking on Heavens Door (Guns n Roses) which got us all singing along.

A big THANK YOU to all the musicians who performed today, especially Mehmet Raif for organising the acts and to Fred for providing the PA and doing the sound.
