This years Sunday Sessions free concert at Broomfield Park Bandstand, Broomfield Park in Palmers Green kicked off on the 3rd August to an audience who had come prepared to brave the unpredictable weather with brollies and rain coats at the ready!! It was strange organising the events without our friend and sound engineer John Perrin who passed away in March this year, but the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund were in attendance and we appreciate everyone who made a donation.

The open mic started with Alan whose voice was reminiscent of Joe Cocker singing a gutsy Born to be Wild & Redhouse accompanied by Noel on guitar. Slashed Seat Affair original local pop/rock band consisting of Ellie Mules (Vocals), Darren Michael (Bass), Noel Martin (Guitar) & Rob Meehan (Drums), was the first band up and they set the mood for the afternoon with some excellent original quirky but catchy rock/pop songs that are reminiscent of Blondie/Pretenders. Ellie not only looked fab in her frock, she proved she had the pipes to match as she put her voice through it's paces. Want a taste? Go check out Dislocated in the video section at

Onstage next was the inimitable Brian Nash (ex Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Nasher) whose unique blend of original alternative pop got the audience bopping. As always, his lyrics are thought provoking, tongue in cheek and sometimes ascerbic - I particularly liked 'Jerry', a take on society a la Jerry Springer and the well executed version of Praise You which showcased every member of the bands incredible musical talent. Check out Nashers Myspace where you can also watch some videos of him performing Power of Love, Acute Tanorexia and The Honeymoon's Over at Broomfield Park in 2007.

Stone Pony finished off the afternoon with a great set of popular covers and as usual, every member of the band sang lead as well as backing each other with some great harmonies. All the lads have good voices as well as being great musicians, so every song they performed was enjoyable, but highlights of the day for me were Dan singing Copperhead Road, Damien's version of Born in the USA and Noel Martin's rendition of 500 Miles. North Londons hardest working covers band, comprises of Niol Sweeney (drums), Dan Sweeney (bass), C.J. Kelly (guitars) Damien O'Brien (Guitars) and Noel Martin (Guitars).

Thanks go to all the band members for making the day a enjoyable feast of musical entertainment!
