The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists is a national labor union affiliated with the AFL-CIO. Film and Television Freelance Training funded by the Skillset Freelance Training Fund and the participating companies, the scheme is managed by FT2 and will train six to eight people over a period of eighteen months training to become high quality researchers in factual programming through attachments to the companies and short course training. Trainees will be working towards achieving the Skillset Professional Qualification in Production Research at Level 3 and are salaried and employed by FT2 for the duration of the training scheme. No course fees are required and Trainee researchers are paid £220 per week during the first year on programme, with a possible increase during the final six months.
