We are pleased to announce that Roxi & the Blue Cats will be performing at Hilly Fields Bandstand this year with our new guitarist Rickey!!
The bandstand is ideally located in the beautiful grounds of Hilly Fields Park on the junction of Clay Hill and Browning Road and has a history of providing great music every summer thanks to The Friends of Hilly Fields who not only saved it from demolition but also restored, improved and manage the venue for us to enjoy.
This year the Electric Blues Club will be organising the date on which we will be performing so you can expect to see some familiar faces at the first aid/contact point!
The gig starts at 3pm with local folk singer/songwriter Jim Dawson, who has kindly agreed to provide support for us again. We look forward to hearing him singing a selection of covers and original songs accompanied by acoustic guitar and harmonice. If we are very lucky he may also bring along his pal Lou to join him on Conga's and percussion!!
Needless to say the band will be performing a range of blues/rock with a jazzy twist in places ... just to keep you on your toes!! Look out for Rickey our new Lead Guitarist who some may remember from the very popular band Voodoo Chile around 18 years ago!
The band will be doing a shorter set than at Broomfield Park, where we will also be appearing in August (date to be confirmed).

Each year we see the Live Music sessions at Broomfield Park going from strength to strength so we will be repeating them again this year!
The Electric Blues Club will be organising music on Sunday afternoons at Broomfield Park in conjunction with Enfield Council. Each week will have a different 'vibe', Blues, Irish/Folk, Traditional New Orleans Jazz and Pop/Rock/Indie. Forget the Sunday roast in August! Bring a picnic and join us for some great live music throughout the afternoon at the Bandstand. Oh and we also suggest bringing along something to sit on and a brolly ... just in case the grass is damp and the rain decides to fall!!
Want to appear in the park? Get exposure for your act? Solo and duo singers and musicians are invited to bring their instrument or backing track on an audio cassette, CD or minidisk if they would like to get up and perform in the Open Mic / Floorspots slot. For further information and to pre-book a slot contact Electric Blues Club via the contact form or turn up on the day by 12.30 to put your name down.
See Sunday Sessions 2006 or Sunday Sessions 2007 for write up and photos of last two years sessions.

About the bands:
Bear Cat Crawlers traditional New Orleans Jazz band were formed by local club member, musician and music teacher Robbie Martin. His group of fellow musicians work as a collective with various members coming together to perform when required. Their professionalism and years of experience enable them to pick up and play with practically anyone, anywhere, anytime.
Line up consists of Robbie Martin on Clarinet, Rick Ross on Drums (Bob Dwyers Hot Seven), Nick Singer on Banjo (x Bob Dwyers Hot Seven), Mick Wilkinson (Double Bass) who has played on the London jazz scene since the early 60's with many bands including The Beale Street Jazz Band 1970 - 1987, The Royal Garden Jazz Band 1980 - 1997.
John Lawrence (Trumpet) is a keen Ken Colyer fan who started playing trumpet in the local dance band and ran his own dixieland band for a few years in the 70's. His interest in playing jazz was renewed in 2000, since when he has regularly taken part in parades and jam sessions at weekend jazz festivals. He recently joined the five-piece PG Stompers from Surrey.
Johnny Jeanes (Trombone) played guitar and trumpet as a young man. After leaving RAF he switched to trombone "definitely his instrument" in order to join the north London based Dave Nelson Marlborough Jazz Band which already had a trumpet player. He later played with the legendary Crane River Band. After a break of almost 40 years Johnny started playing again two years ago and is now rehearsing with the Frog Island Band.
Stone Pony North londons hardest working covers band, comprises of Niol Sweeney (drums), Dan Sweeney (bass), C.J. Kelly (guitars) Damien O'Brien (Guitars) And Noel Martin (Guitars), The difference between Stone Pony and other bands is that every member sings so expect a variety of voices and sizes!! They have been together for just under a year now but have all been musicians for most of their lives and played in many different bands.
Stone pony will be supported by Brian Nash (ex Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Nasher) who creates a unique style of rugged pop. his songs are instantly likeable and catchy, with an inspirational lyrical content. You'll love him.
Also playing on the day will be Norse, fronted by the enigmatic Pete Wood. They Are a dirty rock and roll band. with kick ass grooves dished out by fred and ear bending riffs. All songs are original but have that old school familiarity. This is north london music at it's very best, not an afternoon to be missed.
The Hauting A.D. The band has played throughout the UK their original music can be described as extraordinary, atmospheric, communing with spirits and generally dealing lyrically with the sharp end of life but they will also be interspersing a selection of cover songs into the mix for the afternoon.
Line up includes band leader/manager Caroline Hoare aka 'Witchy' (songwriter, lead vocal, rhythm guitar and harmonica), John Hoare (songwriter, lead guitar, backing vocals, musical arrangements), Scott Lomas (bass guitar), Tracey Simmons (acoustic & electric violin, backing vocals), and standing in on drums is their former drummer Jim Gardner. Visit their site The Haunting A.D. for more details.
RoXi & the Blue Cats who again attracted the biggest crowd at last years Sunday Sessions will be performing a mixture of blues/rock/jazz original material and cover songs by some of the great blues artists.
Fronting the band is dynamic vocalist Roxi (winner of the Greenwich Talent Show televised on ITV 6 '0' Clock Show judged by Jools Holland), produced and presented RoXi's New Band Show and Through The Night Show on Town FM, has subsequently appeared on Radio, TV and venues throughout the UK, Europe and the USA as a solo artist and front woman for a variety of covers and original bands including Blulix & Don't Panic. Her powerful, versatile range and emotive, raunchy style has been likened to such artists as Janis Joplin, Etta James and Stevie Nicks. From the gruff growl sliding into mellow sexy tones through to stratospheric notes, Roxi is an energetic and emotive performer who keeps the audience enthralled.
The Blue Cats line up includes exquisitely brilliant ex U-Boat bass player Philip Plant (also played on Man Who Fell To Earth film soundtrack and with Red Buddha Theatre), Rick Moxon on rhythm guitar and newcomers Jim Gardner (x blulix, the sabbath tribute band) on drums and returning to the stage after a long absence ex Voodoo Child lead guitarist & frontman Rickey Powell whose influence has lent a decidedly jazzy influence to the bands sound.
They are joined by new member James Daniell (harmonica, vocals) who also plays with the Talking Strawberries and has performed/recorded with a number of artists and bands including The Early Days Blues Band, Smokestack Lightning, Ian Siegal, Jonny Henderson and Preston Shannon to name a few!
RoXi & the Blue Cats will be supported by popular local acoustic folk/contemporary singer/songwriter and guitar teacher Jim Dawson who regularly provides entertainment to audiences at Folk Festivals, venues and for 'Music in Hospitals' and HM Prisons throughout the UK.
