New Deal

New Deal is an initiative by the UK Government as part of the Welfare to Work strategy.  It gives unemployed people aged 18-24, 25 plus, lone parents and those with disabilities a chance to develop their potential, gain skills and experience and find work.

So how does this apply to YOU? If you are 18 to 24, have been unemployed for 6 months or more and are claiming jobseekers allowance, you may qualify for the New Deal for Musicians open to dj's, singers, songwriters and musicians.  The scheme has been running successfully offering access to information, continued guidance and support from people in the music industry.

New Deal for Musicians is open to all styles and types of singers and musicians from composers to DJs and all varieties of music created.  Classical, Blues, Rock, Pop, Folk, Jazz, Drum n Bass, Hip Hop etc.  The programme is not a college course and requires 30 hours a week commitment from you to train. The advantages are tremendous in this music industry backed project that is run throughout various companies, studios and organisations in the UK.  You also have the option to choose between several modules or put together your own learning package.  This includes learning an instrument to bands who need help and support with rehearsal, marketing and promotion!

If you want to make a serious attempt building a career in the music business then instrumentalists, vocalists, composers, songwriters and performing DJs gain access to a free open learning package specially designed to allow individual choice and direction with the support of professionals and recording time in recording studios.

Music business advisors who work in various areas of the music business are available to help you develop your career and you still get whatever benefits you're entitled to and in some cases extra.

Visit your Jobcentre and ask the New Deal Personal Adviser about New Deal for musicians, read our list of workshops available, visit www.newdeal.gov.uk, www.mbr.cwc.net or Call 0845 606 2626.
